Below are some learning experiences for the students to develop understandings of the changes boys and girls go through as they grow:
Knowledge Rating Scale Activity WWA
General changes
- Just Around the Corner Videos and Brainpop (usual password) – Students watch the videos and Brainpop to learn the similarities and differences between the changes boys and girls go through.
- Puberty Q & A session – All boys together with male teachers, girls with female teachers.
Friday 10 May – boys to 5M/girls to 5F
Social changes
- Positives, challenges and solutions in Grade 5 – Students analyse their present relationships with others to identify challenges. This is a lead into peer pressure.
- Peer pressure readings – Jigsaw reading activity to introduce concept of peer pressure
- Forms of peer pressure – Exploring the different forms of peer pressure and the situations where they occur
- Peer pressure bag of tricks – Role play scenarios to highlight the verbal and non-verbal forms of peer pressure
- Research project – social, emotional, physical changes as well as responsibilities. Can be done as pamphlet, paper, keynote, movie, etc…
