Central idea, LOIs, Summative Assessment

To inquire into the following:

  • Transdisciplinary theme

How we express ourselves –

An inquiry into the ways in which we discover and express ideas, feelings, nature, culture, beliefs and values; the ways in which we reflect on, extend and enjoy our creativity; our appreciation of the aesthetic.

  • Central idea

Artists seek to evoke an emotion from their audience.

  • Summative assessment task(s):

What are the possible ways of assessing students’ understanding of the central idea?

Students create a poetry film (write or find a poem or lyrics and turn it to a short film) and justify their choice of techniques and explain the process they went through to create it. Explanation graded with both the HWEO  student evaluation rubric and the HWEO teacher evaluation rubric.

Students will be engaged in an inquiry into the life, times, influences/inspirations and works of artists (Music, Art, Drama, Film, Dance) of their choice. (do we still want to keep this? DT)
After compiling an anthology of poems or lyrics, students will choose their favorite composed by themselves and transform it into a film. The Film has to include techniques that evoke an emotional response (lighting, music, framing, perspective).

These will first be judged in each class and the top 3 from each class will be shown in our poetry film festival in the Founder’s Theater.
