The How we express ourselves unit for Grade 5 goes for 7 weeks. It culminates in a poetry film festival where videos from each class will be screened in the Founder’s Theater for all to see. Click here to view last year’s festival.
During this unit we will be delving into poetry and lyric studies, looking at the language techniques, structures, word choice and rhythm used. Throughout this unit we will focus on differing emotional responses and ones that artists try to evoke.
Using a poem or lyric of their choice, the students will create a short video using skills learned and already mastered. Matching technique with intended emotional response of the poem or lyric will be a critical element in their learning.
