Sources of Inspiration

The first unit of the Grade 5 Exhibition is a sharing the planet unit.

The central idea is: The work of others can inspire and challenge us to make a difference.

To help unpack this BIG idea, we are going to use a thinking strategy called, Brainstorm. It’s a great strategy to help with thinking fluency.

Your task:

  1. Discuss with a partner what you think this means and put it into your own words.
  2. Define the word ‘inspiration’.
  3. Take an A3 piece of paper and draw a Y-Chart.
  4. In two minutes, record in the top of the Y as many different animals as you can.
  5. The person with the most ideas reads out their list and people add 5 ideas that they don’t have.
  6. In another two minutes, repeat the process on the left side of the Y with any living things.
  7. Tally up the number of ideas again.
  8. Repeat one final time listing sources of inspiration.
  9. Share your ideas with a partner.
