Converting Metric Units of Length

Remember,

10mm=1cm
so to change mm into cm divide by 10.
To change cm into mm, multiply by 10

100cm=1m
so to change cm into m, divide by 100.
To change m into cm, multiply by 100

1000m=1km
so to change m into km, divide by 1000.
To change km into m, multiply by 1000

Face, Place and Total Value

Total value= face value x place value.

For example in the number 57,432 the face, place and total value of the “7” would be;

Face=7, Place=1000’s, Total=7000

If the face value is “0” then the total value is “place holder” (PH for short)

For example in the number 3,000

face=0, place=hundreds, total=Place Holder (PH)

Give the face, place and total value of the red digit in the following numbers.

 1)426                2) 5,423                3) 567,934            4) 43,706            5) 100,080

 6)12,435,765        7) 54,257,981        8) 31,568,045        9) 245,326,987        10) 3,223,545,000
